Things I love about North Carolina

Mellow Mushroom

DRS and I have searched for good pizza in NC since day one.  While we couldn't find the good italian style thin crust pizza we were searching for, we did find pretty delicious pizza at Mellow Mushroom.  They have a wonderful selection of specialty pies made with whole wheat crust.  We had to visit one more time prior to leaving.  Yummy!

Napping Friends

Magnolia and DRS have become great friends over the past week.  She loves to give him kisses and has even started napping with him.  I am lucky to have such a cute family!

Police Car

Last weekend, DRS and I came across this police car while we were out to lunch.  I think it is quite witty and highly effective in proving its point!

Wisconsin Themed Dinner

On Sunday night DRS and I made a Wisconsin themed dinner in honor of our move back.  DRS handled making the brats while I tried making soft pretzels with a cheese dip.  And we had some Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy to wash it all down with.  Yum!

The pretzels were much easier than I thought they would be and turned out delicious.  You can find the recipe I used here.

Date Night

DRS took me out for dinner and a movie this weekend.  What a great date night!  We went to Six Plates in Durham.  It is a small plate wine bar.  Their menu changes weekly along with their featured wines.  They have the best sliders!  Then we went downtown to the Carolina Theater.  It is a restored theater where they host both live performances and a small number of movies.  We saw Moonrise Kingdom, a hilarious film directed by Wes Anderson.  I would definitely recommend it!

I think it was the perfect date!

Things I love about North Carolina

Poole's Diner

"Life is short, eat dessert first" - John Poole

John Poole opened Poole's Pie Shop in 1945.  The pie shop flourished but soon the patrons were wanting more.  So in the early 1950's the pie shop transformed into Poole's Luncheonette. This was thought to be the first hot spot in the city.  Most recently Poole's has returned to its diner roots under the ownership of chef Ashley Christensen.  The restaurant now serves fresh, locally grown food in a retro, old school diner atmosphere.

We visited Poole's Diner last weekend with my cousin and her husband.  What a delicious meal!  If you ever make it to this restaurant and they have the mac and cheese on the menu, you MUST order it!  It is unbelievable!

Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!  DRS and I had a relaxing day at home with Magnolia.  What did you do this 4th of July holiday?

My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy! - Thomas Jefferson
